This Smith-Corona U.S. Model 03-A3 is a genuine piece of America's World War II small-arms story, built by one of only two manufacturers to produce the M1903A3. Receiver serial number 4756356 falls within Smith-Corona's wartime production, while the rifle retains the defining 03-A3 configuration: a 24.00" barrel, receiver-mounted aperture sight, five-round internal magazine, full military stock and simplified stamped hardware developed for high-volume wartime manufacture. The result was the final major service-rifle evolution of the legendary M1903 lineage—a rifle built for a nation fighting a global war.

Mechanically, the M1903A3 is classic American military bolt-action engineering: a strong manually operated turn-bolt action feeding .30-06 Springfield from a five-round internal box magazine. The receiver-mounted aperture rear sight was one of the A3's most significant improvements over earlier M1903 configurations, giving the rifle a longer sight radius and an exceptionally clean sight picture. Smith-Corona's wartime production combines substantial machined components with the stamped trigger guard, floorplate and bands characteristic of the simplified 03-A3 production program. It is rugged, purposeful machinery with nothing present that did not earn its place.

The details are where this rifle gets serious. The receiver is clearly marked “U.S. / SMITH-CORONA / MODEL 03-A3 / 4756356,” and the barrel carries visible “S C,” Ordnance bomb and “7-43” markings. The stock displays a boxed FJA inspection cartouche accompanied by the crossed-cannons Ordnance mark, with additional inspection and proof stamps visible around the stock and trigger-guard area. These are exactly the kinds of surviving military details collectors want to study on an M1903A3. The Model 1903A3 itself was introduced during 1942 as a production-simplified evolution of the M1903, employing an aperture rear sight and increased use of stamped components to accelerate wartime output.

Collector appeal here comes from the Smith-Corona identity, unmistakable receiver legend, documented wartime serial range, S-C marked 7-43 barrel and the strong field of surviving stock inspection marks. The walnut shows honest handling marks, dents and service character without losing the military profile that gives these rifles their presence, while the metal retains a service appearance.

Smith-Corona spent peacetime putting typewriters on desks; during World War II, its Syracuse operation helped put .30-06 rifles into America's arsenal. That industrial crossover alone gives the Smith-Corona 03-A3 a personality all its own, and this example brings the goods that matter: wartime receiver, S-C barrel, military inspection marks, full service configuration and the unmistakable lines of America's final production Springfield. This isn't a modern tribute to the Greatest Generation. It's steel, walnut and U.S. wartime production history—the real deal, and exactly the kind of rifle that belongs in a serious American military collection.
